Be A Part Of International Women’s Day – RYCO Movement!

March 8th marks International Women’s Day!  Here at RYCO Hydraulics, we are proud of our empowered and inspiring women around the globe. In honour of the occasion, we have invited inspirational RYCO women from each of our global locations to answer the following question:

“Which woman (or women) have inspired you and/or helped you get where you are today?”

Our RYCO Women Around the Globe

Terry Stevens
Role: Pilbara Area Manager
Location: Karratha, Australia

Terry’s true inspirations first and foremost are her mum, Norma Jean, and an Australian female horse trainer, Gai Waterhouse.

Terry stated, “My mum joined Women’s Royal Australian Army Corp and eventually left for marriage and children.  Something that in those days could not be done in conjunction with serving within the forces.  It was one or the other.

She later opened her own successful florist business and ran this for several years whilst still raising a family. My mother taught me that nothing was a given and that with determination anything is achievable…  regardless of gender.

I am proud to say that I followed in her footsteps and joined the Army in 1980 and served for over 7 years whilst I was able to have both a career, marriage, and children.”

Terry added “And another who has inspired me and never met is Gai Waterhouse.  Gai is a female horse trainer of the highest calibre in Australia and has been very successful in a male-dominated industry.

Terry concluded, “It is important to recognise and acknowledge all women that have gone before us and forged the paths that have enabled us, the women of today the choices we now have and with little question.

It is also important to recognise that what you are doing today should have a positive influence on how your daughters and granddaughters make their way in this world and what paths you lay for them in preparation.”

Caroline Thompson
Role: Operations Supervisor
Location: Auckland, New Zealand
Caroline finds true inspiration in her two best friends!
Caroline stated, “I think realistically, the women who have helped me the most to get me where I am today are my two best friends. Finding people who accept you 100% for who you are, warts and all, is so amazing. They support and celebrate with me when I am happy and achieving and on the flip side, they are not afraid to tell me when I can do better or make better choices in my life. I value honesty and kindness above all else in life and in these two women I have an unending amount of it.”
Caroline added, “Outside of my two best friends, I thoroughly enjoy the writings and podcast of Deborah Frances-White a.k.a The Guilty Feminist. I find her Podcast the Guilty Feminist relatable and interesting”.
Peyton Coker
Role: Marketing Specialist
Location: Houston, America
Peyton shared, “The woman that has inspired me to get where I am today would be my grandmother, known as Grandmargie, was the hardest working, most determined, and selfless woman I knew.

She started working at a very young age and never let anything stand in her way. She got her pilot’s licenses and flew Beachcraft Musketeer all around the US, by herself. Watching her be so passionate about her love of flying, how she kept learning throughout her life and was always there for others; has been a true inspiration and has impacted my life today.”

Bonnie Zhang
Role: Customer Service Manager
Location: Dalian, China

Bonnie recalls, “The first woman that comes to mind is Oprah Winfrey. I read an article about Oprah Winfrey when I was in primary school. She is a living example of what talent, hard work, and determination can do.

She was an unwanted child whose parents never married. She was brought up on her grandmother’s farm. Fast forward to today and she is a talk show host, a billionaire, a media executive, and philanthropist.

“The greatest discovery of all time is that a person can change his/her future by merely changing his attitude”. This quote resonates with me and gives me the impression that doing your best at this moment puts you in the best place for the next moment.”

Mageshwari A/P Ramachandran
Role: Customer Service Manager
Location: Kuala Ketil, Malaysia

The woman who has inspired me to where I am now is my mother.
My mother is my role model, she inspires and motivates me to grow without any barriers.
She can do anything and everything and is always there if I need her. She’s also my best friend and I can talk to her about anything.
I don’t know anyone who is as hard-working as my mum. She is in her late 70s but still very motivated and is my family’s Pillar of Strength.

Ataliah Matthew
Role: Finance & Operations Director
Location: Johannesburg, South Africa

Ataliah stated, “Apartheid was a system of institutionalized racial segregation that existed in South Africa. Throughout the years, many anti-apartheid activists fought for the freedom of the oppressed nation but one woman, who can also be considered the Mother of our nation “Winnie Madikizela – Mandela” fought hard, not only for the oppressed but particularly for women and children.
Her commitment to fighting and overcoming the challenges of Apartheid has given me the opportunity to an education that I previously would not have had access to and also enabled me to advance in my career through equal opportunities in the workplace.. Knowing the oppression, she faced in fighting for generations to come has been a source of great inspiration, urging me to aim higher each day in achieving my goals.”
Ataliah added, “In a more personal way, I am surrounded by a network of exceptionally strong women in my family. Growing up in a household where “you can’t do it” was never the words one heard, the sky has been the limit. The encouragement, motivation, and teachings of self-love I have received have given me the confidence to not be afraid to take on the world. What has been imparted to me over the years, I now use to impart to other young women I am fortunate to meet throughout my journey!”

We are thankful for the women that support and work for RYCO Hydraulics and RYCO 24•7 across the globe. We would like to especially thank these RYCO and RYCO 24•7 women for sharing their stories and inspiration with us!
