Our Training & Development Manager Celebrates 10 Year Anniversary Service at RYCO

Name: Gary Jennings

Department: Human Resources

Title: Training & Development Manager

Location: Melbourne Head Office, Australia

Our RYCO Training & Development Manager, Gary Jennings, celebrates 10 years of service this year! Gary is a strong believer in collaboration and cohesiveness among RYCO departments. Whilst Gary is well-known for conducting training courses for RYCO employees, customers, and RYCO 24•7 franchisees it’s essential to find out what motivates and inspires him outside of work as well!

On this special anniversary, Gary shared with us his professional and personal journey. This included his successes, challenges, and the “resources” he requires to succeed within his role. Now let’s take a closer look at Gary’s thoughts on the years spent working at RYCO.

  1. When training and teaching people at RYCO, what do you find is the most enjoyable part?

The most enjoyable part is the opportunity to interact with a diverse group of people from a large range of disciplines.  I like being involved with all elements of the business.

  1. What does your day-to-day role entail?

Design, develop, deliver, administer, and manage all the elements of the RYCO KNOW HOW training program.  A lot of collaboration and interaction with other departments and functions – internally at RYCO and externally with customers.

  1. Often training and development are about updating older versions with newer ones, innovating, and staying on top of trends. Would you agree?

Yes, I would agree, we are often redeveloping existing programs to suit different audiences or altering content to align with product development. The markets we serve also have needs that evolve and that affects the structure, content, and delivery modes of our training.

  1. What was the most memorable feedback received from your trainee during your decade with RYCO?

The best feedback is when someone says something along the lines of “oh my gosh that is going to make my life so much easier, I get it”.

  1. What’s something most people don’t know about you?

I am a frustrated builder, I love to strap on a nail bag, grab a hammer and build things.

  1. What is your favourite product at RYCO? And why?
CROCBITE – great innovation, and engineering combined.  It is a product that fills a real need and requirement within the mining industry.  CROCBITE is a safety connection system that uses a segmented flexible “CROCTAIL” that fully engages the circumference of the connector, ensuring maximum possible holding, and delivering increased safety for personnel.

What’s more? The major benefits of the CROCBITE system include contamination and corrosion resistance, colour coding, easy access, reusable, and easy to assemble. I also love the logo Marketing created for the range.

  1. Who are some of your biggest inspirations within the company?

My role is collaborative in nature.  It relies on me gaining cooperation from others and being able to borrow their resources to succeed.  I cannot name a single person as an inspiration as there have been many people contributing to my role to date.  I’ll go by departments, and the people will know who they are, my colleagues in HR, pivotal. Product, Marketing, Sales, Customer Service, Operations, Engineering, IT, Finance, and the RYCO Executive Team… could not succeed in this role without them all.

  1. What is the most challenging aspect of your role?

The breadth of the role – specifically geographically and subject matter. We never seem to be able to get as much done as we would like to.

Christmas parties at RYCO are never dull!

  1. What inspires you and gives you good energy outside of RYCO?

Family and community. I almost forgot… The Mighty Melbourne Storm.

Gary Jennings – Mighty Melbourne Storm

“In learning, you will teach, and in teaching, you will learn”, a famous quote by Phil Collins. As a result of his 10 years of service, Gary has developed a strong understanding of not only how to teach, but also how to cover a broad scope of content and be seen as a knowledgeable expert for various audiences (both internally and externally) within the hydraulics and fittings market.

We thank you, Gary, for your service and look forward to many more years at RYCO!
